365/30 – Cleaning up Market Street

January 31st, 2010 by ronlute

365/30 – Cleaning up Market Street, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Here is another building getting ready to be demolished on Market Street (the Miracle Mile). I just noticed it today and I can’t even remember what this building is or was.
I need to pay better attention to these old buildings before they get to this state.

Went to a great portrait workshop today. Here is the first of many photos. This is Heather and Rachel. Heather is one of the models that is in my Enjoy magazine cover shot runner-up photo. Had a great day today and should have many good shots from the workshop.

365/28 – Award of Excellence

365/28 – Award of Excellence, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

The National Juried Show at North Valley Art League in Redding has been judged and my baby won an Award of Excellence. It is very cool and comes with the big blue ribbon and a cash prize. It was great to see her get recognized for her excellent art.
She didn’t get best of show but this award is basically 2nd place and considering all the entries from as far away as New York it is quite an honnor. She is most talented.

365/27 – Yoshis

Yeah, so I missed my first day. There will be days like that. Low lighting = not so great. So yeah about the low lighting. It was a quick portrait before I had to go somewhere tonight. I thought I would try the main light low. On the way home I am listening to TWIP and there are talking lighting. LIght high for the best look. I see what they mean.
(Note to self: Light high dude)

365/26 – Ice Towers

January 26th, 2010 by ronlute

365/26 – Ice Towers, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Seems like it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve seen the sun here but I don’t mind. The snow pack looks nice and we still have winter enough left for more snow.
Tonight we got a cool call. It was the local art league calling to let my wife know that she should be at the awards ceremony on Friday for the National Juried Art Show as she is an award winner. That is just too cool. I will have a photo in Enjoy Magazine in March for being one of the finalists in their Cover Contest. We are both starting off 2010 well.

365/25 – What Is It?

365/25 – What Is It?, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Light camera left, shoot through umbrella, Canon 430EX II 1/4 power. As usual on Mondays there wasn’t much time so here is my photo of the evening. What do you think it is?

365/24 – New Hat

January 24th, 2010 by ronlute

365/24 – New Hat, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Got a new hat for my birthday last week. But the really cool thing is my optical slave replacement from FlashZebra works really well. Lon at FlashZebra gets my vote as customer service person of the year. I will definitely order any flash items that I need from this company as their service is top of the line.
This mediocre portrait was fired by a RadioPopper JrX trigger on a Canon 430EX II in front on Manual at 1/2 power and a Vivitar 285HV used to backlight and fired with a Sonia Optical Slave.

365/22 – No Light Please

365/22 – No Light Please, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Lucy just doesn’t like to get her picture taken. At least not by me with my flashing umbrella. When I try to take Lucy’s picture she just moves away and is obviously nervous about the whole affair. Tonight I hand held the camera with the Canon 430EX II on a stand with a shoot through umbrella. All fired with the JrX. Other than the shy model it works nicely.

365/21 – Fresh Snow

Another in the series and because it was easy. Thursdays are another day that is usually quite busy and when the stormy weather is here and the days are short then the view from my office window is kind of nice at times.

365/20 – First Light

January 20th, 2010 by ronlute

365/20 – First Light, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Here it is. My first photo with a single flash fired with the new Radiopopper. Didn’t have much time and at first I thought it wasn’t working but I just have to pay attention to the hot-shoe contact and it works fine. In a day or 2 I will have the replacement optical slave and I hope that works OK so I can do 2 flash protraits. If not then I’ll just have to save up for a second receiver.
