the photographic journey of a Redding man

365/77 – Yzzie

Here is the first from the new camera. My little granddaughter’s great hair. I did find out that I can not open the RAW files on this camera in the CS3 so I will be changing my workflow now. I had the ISO on Auto it took at 3200 which wasn’t possible on my last camera and it would have been way worst than this for noise. Hopefully I will get back to RAW processing quickly and get better shots.

365/76 – Loaded for Bear

It is somewhat fitting that the last picture from this great camera will be out the office window. It won’t be the last out this window for sure but the last with the XTi. It really is a nostalgic day coming and just a few days short of a full 3 years. I will miss this first of the DLSRs. On to the next one.

365/75 – Another Bounce

365/75 – Another Bounce, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Not sure which I like best the shoot through or bounce but this is a single with a bounce again. Of course I often wish I had a better looking model to work with on a regular basis but we do with what we have.
Speaking of what we have this is getting near the end of pictures with this Canon. I will soon be selling it and moving to a newer model. It’s been just about 3 years this wonderful camera and I’ve enjoyed those 3 years but it’s time to move on.
Lighting is the Canon 430EX II high camera left at 1/4 power with the RP JrX.

365/74 – Apex Guy

Meet the Apex Guy. Local networking company’s new mascot. At least I’ve got another model to use and he is as ready as the other model though a might less flexible.
Made a nice little discovery last night. I have this bag from my dad that contains an old Canon film camera and some other stuff. One of the items I realized was a Promaster strobe. I found out today that for about $40 I can get a little module that will turn it into a slave unit. Nice. So I will have 3 lights to shoot with.
Tonight I used a single 430EX II fired with the RadioPopper JrX @ 1/16th power with the Honl 1/4″ Speed Grid.

365/73 – Lucy Again

365/73 – Lucy Again, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

It’s not too often that I can get a shot of Lucy. She seems to really be shy of the camera so when I get a chance I take it.
Well after a week of not being able to send directly from Flickr I tried the setup again. This time instead of an error it seemed to work. Let’s see!
Oh my, it worked! Sweet!

365/72 – Silhouette and remembrances

March 20th, 2010 by ronlute

Having a little trouble this week keeping up with the daily photo. It doesn’t help that my blog from Flickr is broken and I can’t seem to find a solution. Today was a sad and happy day. Sad because of saying goodbye to a young lady that was taken from this place way too soon. Happy because the her’s was a life that was so special and she touched so many as was evidenced by the 2 hours our remembrances at her celebration. There were many stories told and there was much laughter and many tears shed today.

Waiting for API

March 19th, 2010 by ronlute

Well it seems a bit frustrating that after getting into such a good habit of almost daily posts for 2010 that after moving my hosting to GoDaddy I can no longer blog from Flickr. Hopefully this is only a temporary situation and I’ll get it resolved this weekend. Still it has been nice to use the Flickr interface for direct blogging. Getting this moved did enable me to update (so easy) and hopefully take it to the next level. The title of Waiting for API came from what changed in the Flickr blog setup. I now get a message that my API endpoint is not right.
Mean while I am just going to add one from a photo shoot we did on Wednesday. A great couple that are getting married in a couple of months.

Today I was out with my fellow team mates working on the April Scavenger Hunt (portraits). We were on the group shot when I happened upon this here monkey hanging out. Thought he would make a good subject.

365/66 – Almost…

March 11th, 2010 by ronlute

365/66 – Almost…, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

I almost got it in the frame. Having myself as a model has the good points and bad. I am available when needed. That’s good, I guess. Sometimes though it seems to be hard to get centered horizontally in the frame. That’s bad. Unless of course that is what you are going for.
Tonight I wanted to be a little more centered because I was after the second strobe to be about a 180 degrees from the key light.
So here is the lighting:
Canon 430EX II high camera right fired @ 1/8 power through the shoot-thru umbrella with the RadioPopper JrX and my Vivitar @ 1/16 power fired with the Sonia optical slave through a Honl snoot.
