the photographic journey of a Redding man

Family Resting Place

Family Resting Place, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

While exploring the area around the big 2 story house we found in the high desert we found some cleared spots with what appeared to be stone markers. One of them had “OCT” chiseled in it. We tried to brush some same away to see if there was a year but we didn’t find one and the ground was quite hard to go any further down. It did look like the family plot.

Come Right In

Come Right In, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

As we become better photographers we learn to see way better than we did before. At least that is the way it is for me. I attempt to really look and “see” when I am out on a shoot or even just out any time. But as good as I get I still sometimes find little surprises in my images that I didn’t notice at the time or at least I don’t remember. There is one of those things in this image. The door to this old Stage Coach Stop is partially open as if almost begging you to come in.

Day’s Done

The day is done and the night begins. As seen from Treasure Island. Some of those building in SF have their holiday lights going and that makes for a nice skyline.

Another image of the giant Christmas balls. I wish I had time to visit the city again before the holidays. Just seems like it would be loads of fun.

Canon Model

Canon Model, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Here is a shot of the lovely model that Canon had at their open house this past Saturday. They had the model with a three light set up that you could shoot with the new Canon Speedlite and controller. Very nice. I’m glad that Canon finally have come up with the Radio Controlled system. It will be much easier than the old line of sight.

Treasure Island Barge

Treasure Island. Sounds so romantic. It is in a way I suppose. This was my first time to visit even though I traveled across the Bay Bridge countless times. This will definitely be a spot that I stop at again. It was also my first time on the new section of the Bay Bridge seen in the background here. Interesting looking and it is really cool at night with all the lights.

Neck Strain

That’s what I get looking up here for very long. It’s a sight not seen in Redding and it’s nice to have a chance to see every once in a while.

Downtown. Love to visit. Wouldn’t want to live there but I do like going once in a while.

Ready for December

Ready for December, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

I have to say that I’m not usually very happy to see Christmas decorations going up. It’s not because I don’t like them but usually they are getting put up way too early. I grew up and this would happen after Thanksgiving. Now it often is happening before Halloween.
Today we went to the city for a Canon Learning Center Open House and when we were done we found these wonderful decorations getting set up. Couldn’t help but love these with there supernatural size. Almost reminds me of the movie Big. But it is always fun to take a trip to SF.

Upstairs Window Box

Upstairs Window Box, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Well this wasn’t the house of seven gables and this isn’t even one of them but I believe it was a nice big bedroom window box at one time. It would have been quite the view looking out across the prairie from the upstairs window. I can even imagine looking out at an electrical storm. It would have been quite the site.
