First time with the RadioPoppers on the new 550D. Work fine. Of course we knew they would.

365/75 – Another Bounce

365/75 – Another Bounce, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Not sure which I like best the shoot through or bounce but this is a single with a bounce again. Of course I often wish I had a better looking model to work with on a regular basis but we do with what we have.
Speaking of what we have this is getting near the end of pictures with this Canon. I will soon be selling it and moving to a newer model. It’s been just about 3 years this wonderful camera and I’ve enjoyed those 3 years but it’s time to move on.
Lighting is the Canon 430EX II high camera left at 1/4 power with the RP JrX.

365/74 – Apex Guy

March 23rd, 2010 by ronlute

365/74 – Apex Guy, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Meet the Apex Guy. Local networking company’s new mascot. At least I’ve got another model to use and he is as ready as the other model though a might less flexible.
Made a nice little discovery last night. I have this bag from my dad that contains an old Canon film camera and some other stuff. One of the items I realized was a Promaster strobe. I found out today that for about $40 I can get a little module that will turn it into a slave unit. Nice. So I will have 3 lights to shoot with.
Tonight I used a single 430EX II fired with the RadioPopper JrX @ 1/16th power with the Honl 1/4″ Speed Grid.

365/66 – Almost…

March 11th, 2010 by ronlute

365/66 – Almost…, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

I almost got it in the frame. Having myself as a model has the good points and bad. I am available when needed. That’s good, I guess. Sometimes though it seems to be hard to get centered horizontally in the frame. That’s bad. Unless of course that is what you are going for.
Tonight I wanted to be a little more centered because I was after the second strobe to be about a 180 degrees from the key light.
So here is the lighting:
Canon 430EX II high camera right fired @ 1/8 power through the shoot-thru umbrella with the RadioPopper JrX and my Vivitar @ 1/16 power fired with the Sonia optical slave through a Honl snoot.

365/64 – Black and White with Snoot

365/64 – Black and White with Snoot, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

First of all I am going back in time with the numbering here as I have some how gotten off track. Since most of these go to my blog it seems to be a bit messy changing the name later so now I am back to the right number of shots, 64.
After listening to an all about flash podcast by lensflare35 and the Digital Experience group I wanted to try my honl snoot for the back lighting. I guess it turned out OK (but not great).
So here is the lighting:
Canon 430EX II high camera right fired @ 1/8 power through the shoot-thru umbrella with the RadioPopper JrX.
Vivitar @ 1/4 power fired with the Sonia optical slave through a Honl snoot. Post processing is with Silver Efex Pro.

365/64 – Backlight Heavy

March 7th, 2010 by ronlute

365/64 – Backlight Heavy, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Just as the title implies this was more light from behind. I was working on getting separation. I should have had my head more into the frame to see the full effect but it’s a start.
The key light is the 430EX II high camera right fired at 1/16 power with the RadioPopper JrX and the Vivitar fired at 1/2 behind subject left with optical slave.
Also a little post processing with Topaz Adjust to try and make me look a little better.

Here is a little plant I found today. I think it could be poison oak. I am working on a macro this week for the print competition.

365/56 – Harder Light

February 27th, 2010 by ronlute

365/56 – Harder Light, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

I really need to get out tomorrow or have have something else to use as a model because I am getting tired of the same ole thing (me). At least my model is always nearby and it does give me the opportunity to see some of the effects of the Honl light modifiers. The lighting tonight was the Canon 430EX II fired @ 1/8 power with a RadioPopper JrX. I used the Honl system strap and snoot opened up as a reflector.

365/54 – Kitty Shot

February 24th, 2010 by ronlute

365/54 – Kitty Shot, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Thought I would do a 2 flash photo tonight using the IR remote and holding the cat. Everything went fairly well except that it was a 1 light shot. Found out the second flash works much better with the batteries. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
The Canon 430EX II was fired at 1/4 power with RadioPopper through an umbrella.

365/53 – Joey and Me

365/53 – Joey and Me, originally uploaded by ronWLS.

Tonight I wanted to get a change in background and a nice change in subject too. It’s’ nice to have someone with me in the photo and who better than my Joey. Behind us is one of her great murals.
Strobist info:
Canon 430EX II at 1/2 power fired with the RadioPopper JrX and through an umbrella.
